Who Let The Dog Out?

Prism was commissioned to do this custom dog suncatcher! Isn't she cute!? Almost everyone has had a hand in making her. First, we took a photograph and created a line drawing. Then, we found glass that closely matched the picture. Lastly, we constructed it!

Stained Glass Terrarium

Check our Martha Evans' Stained Glass Terrarium. This cute creation not only houses plants, but it also is home to cat figurines. This cool piece also has a mosaiced glass floor. We have never seen anything like it!

Mixing Media

Take a look at Sharon's latest collaboration. A customer, Doug, approached Sharon and commissioned her to create this circular fused piece. He created a design that he wanted duplicated in glass. The hanger is made from welded aluminum and has a slit through it that holds the glass piece in place. The fabulous final creation is living in Doug's house above an archway.

From Trash to Treasure

Isn't this gorgeous? This is Pat Gurko's latest piece, a beautiful mosaic table top.
Pat has such an artistic eye. Well done.

You'll never guess how this table came to be.  This piece started as a "hand-me-down" from the neighbor. Pat's neighbor bought this table years ago and it never quite worked the way she wanted in her home. So, when Pay got ahold of the base, she knew exactly what she wanted to do for the top. After creating and grouting her design, Pat then topped the table with a piece of clear safety glass slightly larger.
The best part of the story is that after the neighbor saw the finished piece, she BOUGHT the table from Pat!!

Gary's Iridized Bowl

Is this not the most gorgeous bowl you have ever seen? We think so too! Gary has such a good eye and we always enjoy his fabulous creations. Gary painstakingly cut and fit each piece together to form the rim and the center is just a beautiful piece of iridized Uroboros granite. We love it!

Circuits in Glass

Pictured above is Mark Pietrykowski with a plate that he made for his son who has just graduated from Ohio State's Electricians program. In this design Mark incorporated the Ohio State "O" and a dichroic piece to represent a computer chip. Mark is always creative when it comes to fused glass and this piece is no exception.  Congratulations!

4 Year Old Does Glass

Kelan Klingler, age 4, of Napoleon has been working in glass for almost a year under the supervision of his mom, Heather Miller. Kelan is a very vocal and assertive little boy who knew exactly what he wanted to do for this project. He selected all the glass and the mold. He is very proud of this project and so are we. Nice work Kelan, we can't wait to see what you come up with next!!

Mona Pupos Hard at Work

Mona Pupos has been hard at work making some stunning fused glass projects. These are some of her most recent works. Mona enjoys working at Ellen's Glass Act. Her work is so diverse and interesting, we are always excited to learn what she has been playing with. Great work Mona!

The hot air balloon piece is done with slumped glass and stained wood! Very interesting...

Snow in May!?

We know we just got through with all that cold precipitation, but when Sharon saw this, she couldn't resist!

Each snowman has his own personality! Sharon used frit to get the effect of snow. She pre-fired the base before adding the decoration on top.

Faux Wine Bottle with Topper

Create a slumped "wine bottle" made of System 96 fusible glass and a coordinating bottle topper! This class is even better than melting wine bottles because it offers so many more design possibilities. Prism will provide both firings, use of our mold, design elements, and instruction. Students are responsible for the purchase of the base glass. This versatile dish has a handle and a cavity that measures 4x8", perfect for hors'dourves.

Sharon's Latest Commission

Fantasy Landscape by Sharon Carothers

Many of you have expressed interest in Sharon's lastest project. Well, here it is! This is her original design and was constructed at Prism. This piece was commissioned by an area resident to install in his kitchen transom. You can imagine a scene like this in almost any area of the country.
Look at the difference when you put light behind it!

Fused Birdhouse Class

These are a couple of samples of our newest and cutest class. It's the Fused Glass Birdhouse Class. In this class you will learn all the tips and tricks while making your very own glass birdhouse. Sharon will provide all the fun embellishments and firing; you will need to buy the background glass and the glass for the roof (1.5 square feet total). These couldn't be cuter. So stop in today to get a better look and to sign up! Previous cutting experience required.
Class times:
Tuesday, May 31  6-8pm
or Thursday, June 16  6-8pm

Frequent Fuser's Club

Have Fun with Your Friends
Frequent Fuser's Club is one of the best nights at Prism. It's for anyone who has taken our Fused Glass Pendant class. It is just like the class, except there is no lecture, and you can make more than just pendants. Call to sign up for one of our regularly scheduled nights to make jewelry or ornaments. The best part about FF Club is that you do not have to buy your own glass. All of Prism's scrap and pre-cut squares and rectangles are available! Prices will vary based on the size of the project. For example, pendants up to 1.5" x 1.5"cost $6 each. Dichroic and the bails are not included, but they are available for purchase. Instruction is not included. Firing is included.

A Collaborative Effort

Larry Dushane along with his wife Judy have quickly become some of our favorite customers since they took their first class with us in November 2010. Judy started fusing, and Larry quickly jumped on board. This segued into igniting Larry's lost love of stained glass. Now they are fusing, stained glassing, and lampworking! So, when the Dushanes were redecorating their bathroom, they knew they wanted to incorporate glass into the design. They selected a pattern from a book and then they commissioned Sharon to rework the design to fit their space and aesthetic. The result is fabulous! Pictured below is Larry with his beloved panel! Nice work, we love it!

Sister Weekend

Vivian "Dahling" and her sisters recently enjoyed a relaxing weekend hanging out and making mosaics. Vivian came in to Prism and selected a variety of precuts to use as the center motif, and then she showed her sisters how to fill in to create the background. They were very pleased with their results!

More Than Home Decor

Check out these stunning window created by Cindy and Gary Doner of Perrysburg. This is a picture of their dining room. Cindy and Gary have been working on these windows for most of the winter and from what they tell us, these are the last of the pieces they plan to create for their home. They are made from various textured clears, jewels, and lead. The design was inspired by a bevel cluster and altered by the Doners for their space. This couple is extremely talented! Great job!

One Busy Artist

Every once in a while we have a customer that is so enthusiastic and prolific that we cannot do anything, but to appreciate their joy. One of our most beloved customers, Gary Kocher, has been a regular at the glass shop for years. Displayed below are a couple of his beautiful creations. Gary is a jack of all trades. He is a fuser, mosaicist, and also works in stained glass. He has taken almost every class we offer. We count on a visit from him on Saturday mornings and particularly enjoy his "show and tell". We want to send a HUGE thank you to Gary for his continued patronage and kind words.

Translating Languages

I bet you didn't know that Sharon and I translate different languages as part of our job at Prism!

Today, Sharon and I were working in the shop when a man walked in with a brown paper bag. He walked into the back and looked at both of us and said, "My wife does this and uses a "Finland Wizzler". Do you have sponges for them?"

Sharon and I looked at each other and then she asked, "Do you mean an Inland Wizling?" We all burst into laughter.

Customer Projects

This is "Vivian Dah-ling" and her beautiful Groutless Mosaic frame. Since she has taken our class, she has been unstoppable! She created this piece for her daughter whom loves all things ocean. Notice the palm tree, flip flops, and other gems she used to create this stunning frame ! Great job Vivian.
